InternationalYes, international applications are welcome
Closure DateSunday, April 07, 2024
Description:

At the Chair of Mechanical Process Engineering (http://www.mvt.ovgu.de) we are a group of enthusiastic researchers with intensive research activities in the numerical modelling of multiphase flows. As part of our research on particle-laden flows, we study the complex behaviour of dispersed particles in incompressible and compressible turbulent flows, particle-turbulence interactions, the influence of particle shape as well as applications featuring particle-laden turbulent flows. Currently, there are approximately 8 PhD students and 3 post-docs working at the Chair in the area.

The objective of the advertised position is to attract a junior group leader within the Chair, who will be able to develop their own research profile and play a lead role in the numerical multiphase flow group. You will have the opportunity to build your research profile with our in-house code, containing state-of-the-art models based on: immersed boundary techniques, Lagrangian particle-tracking, non-spherical particle dynamics, particle interactions, LES, fully coupled solvers for compressible and incompressible flows, and models for gas-liquid interfaces. You will also have the opportunity to establish your own teaching portfolio on numerical methods, multiphase flow or particle technology.

Job description:

  • Design, execution, and analysis of analytical and numerical models for multiphase flows
  • Leading the development of our in-house simulation tools in C and MPI
  • Develop ideas and write proposals to acquire third-party funded projects
  • Supervise PhD students and post-docs in the field of computational multiphase flows
  • Contribute to teaching in multiphase flows

Requirements profile:

  • Master's degree and a PhD degree in mechanical engineering, process engineering, aeronautical engineering, applied mathematics, physics or a related discipline
  • Proven track record in working with physical problems and numerical methods
  • Proven coding experience in C, C++ or Fortran in the context of numerical modelling
  • Proven track record of using MPI and high-performance computing facilities
  • Proven experience with developing immersed boundary methods, Lagrangian particle tracking, or particle-interaction models is highly desirable
  • Distinct publication record, commensurate with your career stage
  • Fluent command of written and spoken English is required

Your benefits:

  • You have the opportunity to pursue a habilitation and are supported and promoted accordingly
