Description: | |
Project Description: Long-range electric vehicles such as electric buses consume a significant part of the battery's storage capacity for cabin air-conditioning. In extreme climates, the requirement of energy for cabin heating increases drastically and the performance of the battery also deteriorates. As a result, the overall range of the vehicle is reduced and the battery needs frequent charging. To overcome this limitation, we are developing a thermochemical heat pump with energy storage for high- efficiency cabin heating and decoupling the onboard battery from the vehicle's HVAC system. The project will involve thermodynamic simulations, screening of materials, modeling detailed heat and mass transfer processes, and designing, fabricating, and experimentally evaluating the performance of a lab-scale prototype. Candidate Qualifications: The candidate must have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering completed within the last two years or completed their defense and submitted the final PhD thesis. The candidate must have an excellent academic record (CGPA greater than 8.5/10) at all levels of education. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in HVAC and refrigeration, and thermal systems/heat transfer engineering. It is essential that the candidate demonstrates a good understanding of the design process for thermofluid systems (heat exchangers, components, and systems) using software such as MATLAB/COMSOL/ANSYS/FLUENT and is familiar with writing their own codes for solving numerical problems in thermofluids engineering. It is desirable that the candidate has some prior experience or exposure to fabrication, selection and specification, installation, and operation of laboratory equipment typically used in thermal engineering labs (chillers, heaters, fluid flow loops (air and water), instrumentation for temperature, pressure, and flow rate, etc.). The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills demonstrated through publications in reputed journals. Please send an email to agoyal@mech.iitd.ac.in with a brief expression of interest, your most recent CV, and contact details of three referees. |
