Description: | |
Maser thesis: Underwater construction work for wind farms or the detonation of old munitions from the Second World War can generate pressure waves that harm underwater fauna and flora. Bubble curtains are currently used to dampen the pressure waves, but they are very expensive to operate. For this reason, the propagation of pressure waves in water and in the seabed and alternative possibilities for damping are scientifically investigated. The Fraunhofer EMI is using the Apollo blast simulator, which is capable of modelling the propagation of pressure waves numerically. As part of the work, the code has to be extended with suitable models for underwater detonations and bubble breakup. Depending on your interest, the work can either focus on the damping of pressure waves in water by bubble curtains and other technologies or on the interaction of pressure waves in water with the seabed. |
