About the group: My group focuses on developing data-driven and physics-based 
modeling techniques for a variety of engineering problems, such as fluid-structure 
interaction in high-speed flow environments, ship-airwake & aircraft interactions 
for naval applications, and management of large scientific data for DOE and NASA 
applications. Current funding in the group comes from DOE (Department of Energy), 
NASA, and ONR (Office of Naval Research). 


Position Description: Fluid-Thermal-Structural Interactions in High-Speed Flow 
Environments 

The PhD student will focus on computational analysis of high-speed FTSI to derive 
deeper insights into the complex physics of such systems. The student will 
collaborate closely with experimentalists and CFD specialists to develop efficient 
data-driven and parametric models.
An ideal candidate will have:
•	received a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace 
Engineering.
•	understanding compressible flow physics
•	some prior experience with structural dynamics
•	prior Abaqus modeling experience
•	experience or interest in machine learning and reduced order modeling
•	excellent communication skills
