About the group: My group focuses on developing data-driven and physics-based modeling techniques for a variety of engineering problems, such as fluid-structure interaction in high-speed flow environments, ship-airwake & aircraft interactions for naval applications, and management of large scientific data for DOE and NASA applications. Current funding in the group comes from DOE (Department of Energy), NASA, and ONR (Office of Naval Research). Position Description: Reduced Order Modeling of Incompressible Turbulent Flows The PhD student will focus on the development of reduced-order and high-order methods for solving incompressible Navier Stokes and other related nonlinear partial differential equations. An ideal candidate will have: • received a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Ocean Engineering. Degree holders in Applied Mathematics are also encouraged to apply. • good grasp of the fundamentals of fluid dynamics • some experience with modifying/developing/running CFD codes • previous experience with (or interest in learning) Python/PyTorch/Julia • previous experience in numerical and computational modeling (with emphasis on methods development) • previous experience or future interest in machine learning (CNNs and RNNs) • excellent communication skills Motivated and interested candidates who do not meet above list of preferences are also encouraged to apply. |
