The Mechanical Engineering Department (MIE) at the University of Illinois-Chicago 
invites applications for two motivated PhD students in the field of complex fluid 
mechanics and fluid dynamics. 

The positions are available for Spring 2024 or Fall 2024.

Ideal candidates should possess a strong background in fluid mechanics and fluid 
dynamics. Those with expertise in computational methods or hands-on experience 
with fluid mechanics technologies such as particle image velocimetry (PIV) and 
particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) are preferred. Proficiency in MATLAB and 
machine shop experience is advantageous. Excellent communication and writing 
skills, along with demonstrated success in academic research, are essential. An MS 
degree in an engineering discipline, good mechanical design skills, and the 
ability to oversee students and collaborate within a team are required. Selected 
candidates will be involved in overseeing students, collaborating with team 
members, writing reports, and publishing peer-reviewed journal articles.
