mesh coarsening using openfoam

I have a typical problem that alot of people would have with mesh generation. I love hexahedral meshing for their good quality results. But as soon as I go towards thin boundary layers there is a huge penalty that I have to pay, in terms of mesh size.
Quickly I would like to say that I am looking for ways to coarse my mesh. Like if I have a hex mesh and I would like to coarse that mesh in certain regions is it possible.!!! If so kindly give me some ideas and Hints..! |

I'm not sure if mesh coarsening is possible with OF.
Why don't you think the way round: Make a general coarse mesh and refine it if needed. For refinement, you can have a look at refineMesh (using refineMeshDict and cellSetDict) and refineWallLayer (to add boundary layers to patches). Also, snappyHexMesh uses area refinement and layer addition. Using blockMesh, you could also generate mesh blocks with different grid resolutions and stitch them together... |
