CFD modeling can predict flow field and heat transfer which is the essential component of HVAC and sustainable (green) buildings. One can use CFD efficiently to track nature of air flow (check if the building have window panes etc well set to enhance circulation in buildings - accordance with regulations) etc. Then, solve heat transfer flow in the room (with boundary conditions such as heated wall - through solar heater etc) and check how one can reduce energy bills !
So, yes, CFD can be used for a bunch of stuff. CFDtoy
