I have just finished generating a mesh in the CFX mesh program. When I close out the mesh, the workbench looks like I would expect it to (Check marks next to Geometry and Mesh, Refresh symbol next to setup, question marks next to solution and results).

When I attempt to open CFX-Pre by clicking on the Setup button, I get an error that says Error in CFX Pre. Under "Show Details", I get the following:

ERROR
It was not possible to extract any mesh from the file:
C:\Users\AJ Hunters\Documents\MNE Project\14Deg\14Degree_files\dp0\CFX\MECH\CFX1.cmd b.

Please note that a Workbench installation is normally required to import this type of file.

Any help would be appreciated.

As a side not, after the error, the Setup goes back to a question mark.

This is almost exactly the same as another geometry that I have already imported and which works fine.

Update: I have completely reinstalled (and updated from version 14 to 14.5) and still have this problem.

I was able to resolve the error by updating gtmDSDBReader.exe that was missing.

Hello all.

I have the same problem with version 17.1. Is there any tip how to resolve this problem? Or do I need to reinstall the ANSYS?

Thank you for replies.

Best regards

sometimes it helps to right-click on the cell and select "reset". Caution: all changes in that module/cell are being deleted. So in case of the setup cell, save the *.ccl manually and load the CCL back in once the mesh was read.

Another test would be to open PRE stand-alone and load the mesh.

Hey,

did anyone really resolve the problem? I encountered the same problem just now:

- Importing the Geometry works
- Generating a nice Mesh works
- ERROR when opening CFX Pre - as I got the message in German, I'll try translating it:

"gtmDSDBReader.exe does not work anymore.
A problem prevents the correct execution of the program. Close the program."

Afterwards, there is another ERROR-message inside ANSYS (I'll blend out the file paths with ***):

"Update failed for the Setup component in Ventilator. Application Error in CFX-Pre: ERROR
The supplied file name, ***.gmo, can not be opened as a lock file, **.gmo.lck,exists.
If this is the result of a previous failed run then try deleting the
lock file and repeating the operation.
Unable to import the requested mesh:
Type = "GTM_PARTIAL_DSDB".
File = "***.cmdb".
Generic options = " -model 0".
Specific options = "-contact read -names 'CFXMesh ACMO_Simulation'"."

I tried deleting the lockfile but that doesn't work.

I read above, that updating the gtmDSDBReader.exe might help...
I could try that on Monday (I need out IT-department for that) but the weird thing is, that earlier today I didn't have any problems with another workbench project. Yesterday I even did basically the same project as the one I have problems with now (only the geometry changed slighty) and I had no problems at all.

Resetting the setup does not help either.

I'd be grateful for any ideas!
Thanks!

I was finally able to resolve the problem:

There was a bug hidden inside the mesh - a very weird element which didn't comply with my settings and wasn't apparent from the outside.
Despite a green check mark in workbench for the Meshing, this one element seems to have brought gtmDSDBReader.exe crashing.

I found the problem with the help of the mesh quality anaylser and could fix it by redefining my inflations.

Thus: A simple answer for a very complex and confusing error!

It comes as part of any CFX standard installation, for me it is at C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v221\CFX\bin\winnt-amd64. You do not need to download it from anywhere.
